about Prime Futures Tutors
During my time in Queen Elizabeth’s Boys’ School, Barnet, I spent countless hours watching the most gifted members of society study and seeing what worked and, more importantly, what didn’t when it came to the results they were getting. I couldn’t have asked for a more immersive learning experience in this regard, thanks to the incredibly frequent exams for all of the 7 years and consequently the daily studying going on around me. The main barriers I encountered students facing came, most significantly, by way of subject delivery. Everyone has a method of delivery that works best for them, and if that’s not what being used, the missed learning opportunities are vast. As a result, we use whatever method of delivery works best for you. Another prevalent issue was students sitting in the dark when it came to subject understanding and not speaking up. This comes, understandably, due to lack of maturity in young people. For this reason, we don’t leave it for students to say they’re struggling. At the end of every lesson, each group has a 5 minute discussion where tutors really push to find areas where students are struggling and structure this interaction cleverly to alleviate peer pressure or any unwarranted sense of embarrassment. From this discussion, tutors will decide whether altering pace of delivery and methods (a method change is useful where lack of stimulation is deemed to be the limiting factor in progression) is going to help, and they will get an idea of when to move on to a new topic, not doing so until the topic in question is thoroughly reinforced and understood. Regular, short assessments before moving on from a topic are the final step in confirming competency.
Anyone can request assessment for our advanced groups, which are available to all age groups. This assessment is a 15 minute timed iq test taken at any point from a student’s second lesson onwards and is completed during session time. We assess ability based on an iq test, which is included in the lesson cost. The reason for using an iq test is that it’s a more effective gauge of intelligence than most of the national curriculum exam papers, which assess experience in the subject to a large extent and thus are a less effective gauge of pure ability. Furthermore, it means that those with less subject experience are not at a disadvantage and will have access to the pace of teaching right for them. This group operates at an accelerated rate, and therefore it is necessary to test students to see if they will cope learning at this pace. In this way, the tutor can deliver optimal lessons.
We find out how students will learn best, and no 2 students get the same lesson. They are assessed to figure out what type of learner are; visual, auditory, written, or, to a lesser extent, kinaesthetic. Then students are taught in the way they’ll learn best and practice what’s learnt with pen and paper. Research shows that writing things down is an important part of the learning process and superior to alternative methods of practice.
Our approach is geared directly towards boosting exam grades as quickly as possible. One example of how we do this is through the way we tutor essay subjects, in this case GCSE English Literature. When marking essays, GCSE assessors simply follow a mark scheme, so when tutoring the subject, its far more efficient to start by teaching the mark scheme than taking a more general approach, simply teaching how to write an analytical essay. For this reason, we make that the starting point, and then students learn to write with the markers they need to be hitting in their mind the whole time. That way they already have the path paved for them, making the highest marks far more accessible.
All abilities welcome; we ensure every child in the group gets the attention they need. To make this possible, we don’t tolerate any disruptions, with students being asked to leave the centre after the second instance of misbehaviour which disrupts lessons.
With regards to homework, something worth explaining to your child before they start tuition is the gravity of why they are doing homework. We recommend the following approach. The reason ultimately is so they have a great life; take them step by step through the link between schooling, exam results, and careers. In this way you can, in a relatable and easy to quantify fashion, get across that the value of doing well at school is truly insurmountable. A common problem in schools is that many students see their detention or telling off as the only punishment for not completing homework because the above is rarely explained. In reality, the punishment is far more severe by way of the effect it can have in the long term on one’s life and happiness.
Designed to boost uk exam board results in the most efficient possible way. The company owner and many of our tutors are/were grammar school students, so are well acquainted with the 11+ exams and, in turn, what really matters when it comes to passing them. The same no-nonsense approach is applied to our prep for SATs, GCSEs, and A-Levels, which is naturally in line with the national curriculum.
Each tutor brings a key asset. Many are ex- QE Boys also, and thus well versed in the application process and how to do well once accepted. Others are public school students and thus, whatever you’re looking for, we will pair you with someone perfect for you.

We know keeping motivated and focused can be a challenge, especially for younger children. For this reason, we make sure to keep all learning engaging and focused on one specific topic at a time.
Before first attending the centre, please determine what topic the student needs to cover, and our tutors will take over going forward. This can simply be the topic they’re currently on at school, it’s just so that we can get started effectively.
We will be celebrating the 5 year anniversary of our smaller scale tuition group in December. That group is now morphing into PrimeFuturesTutors, a group which has been in the works for a long time, and a service we can now confidently offer.
